PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What Do All the Numbers Mean?
Our product listings include these details:
- Set Code: A unique identifier beginning with TM, like TM145. This helps identify specific sets and their gauges.
- String Gauges: Displayed as 09p, 12p, 18w, 28w—where 09 is the lightest (treble) string and 28 is the heaviest (bass) string.
- P & W: “p” means plain, and “w” means wound.
What's the Difference Between 80/20, Phosphor, and Nickel?
These terms refer to the winding materials of the wound strings:
- 80/20 Bronze: Warmer, with a smooth, balanced tone and more midrange presence.
- Phosphor Bronze: Brighter and crisper, with more top-end sparkle and a lively attack.
- Nickel: Bright and long-lasting, often offering a vintage-style tone.
What Are Ball-End & Loop-End?
These refer to the way strings are anchored to your instrument:
- Loop-End: A small loop at the end of the string that hooks onto the instrument.
- Ball-End: A small ball at the end that fits into a slot to secure it.
What Does Coated Mean?
A protective coating is applied to the string to extend its tone life. Coated strings typically retain their tone 3–5 times longer than uncoated strings.
